Microneedling RF Treatments

Just a little pin prick

Microneedling might just be the best thing that ever happened to your skin.

The micro-injuries created by microneedling stimulates the body’s natural healing protocols, resulting in cellular turnover and both increased elastin and collagen production. The increased levels of these proteins can reverse as well as prevent the signs of aging. The addition of radio frequency energy to the microneedling procedure helps to further stimulate the body's natural collagen and healing processes revealing firmer, rejuvenated skin.

What is It?

Microneedling is a popular procedure that can safely and effectively address a host of skin concerns. Now, an innovative procedure combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy, taking skin rejuvenation to the next level. There are a number of reasons why RF microneedling is a new go-to option for full skin rejuvenation today.

Traditional Microneedling

Traditional microneedling uses a special device that creates micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating the body’s own healing response. Collagen and elastin production are initiated, which effectively tightens skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and acne scarring.

RF Microneedling ( Radio Frequency )

RF microneedling adds the element of radiofrequency energy to the traditional microneedling procedure. The RF energy is delivered via small needles. In addition to the benefits seen with the micro-injury provided by the microneedles, RF microneedling also delivers RF energy deep into the dermis further enhancing skin tightening and scar reduction. The RF energy heats the underlying layers, causing constriction and tightening of the skin, as well as the stimulation of collagen and elastin production. Because the RF energy is delivered so deeply, it can produce faster, more dramatic results.

Who is it for?

RF microneedling is appropriate for nearly any skin type and tone. The procedure addresses the following issues:

  • Fine lines and facial wrinkles

  • Scarring from acne and chicken pox

  • Mild to moderate skin laxity

  • Irregular skin texture and tone

Most patients will achieve full results with 3-4 treatment sessions, spaced about four weeks apart. The number of treatments will depend on how well the patient responds to the treatment and the severity of the skin issues to be addressed.

How does it work?

The micro injuries left behind from each device variation lead to a release of growth factors, trigger the wound healing cascade and aid in mechanically breaking down scar tissue. The neovascularization (development of new blood cells) and neocollagenesis (production of new collagen) result in aesthetically pleasing results without significant recovery time, as the epidermis is not destroyed by this process.

RF microneedling can offer similar results to ablative laser procedures, but with significantly less discomfort and downtime.

What can I expect?

Skin can be a little red for the first day or two after treatment, but the redness is typically mild. There will be tiny little crusts over the micro-perferations but they are hardly visible and heal quickly. Some people will experience mild swelling that goes down over 24 hours, but in some cases on more thin skinned patients the swelling can be more pronounced and last for several days. There is little downtime and patients typically are able to return to regular activities within a day. Makeup can be applied 24 hours after the procedure to mask any residual redness.
